Heritage Improv Project – January Update

January has been a busy month for our residency, and we have been making good use of the energy that comes with a new year. There have been lots of new projects starting, and we are very excited by where things are headed in 2015. Here’s a few updates of what we did in January:

We were invited to teach a workshop about communication and improving group dynamics for two separate groups in January: the teaching staff of Globe Theatre School, and the staff of Street Culture Kidz. These two workshops were both very fun and taught us a lot about how the skills of improvisation can be useful in lots of different settings. We love doing this work, thanks very much to Globe Theatre and Street Culture Kidz for inviting us to share our ideas with them!

We’ve also spent a few days teaching students from Thomson school this month, in the lead up to starting an After-School program for the next 3 weeks. On Thursday Jan 29 began leading some informal and playful improv workshops for Thomson students from grades 5-8. These students always have lots of energy and remind us why working with improv is so much fun.

And finally, our monthly Drop-In Community Improv program officially began in January! We were joined by a great group of people who were interested in learning some improv games and skills. We met lots of new people and are looking forward to meeting more in the months to come. For the next 5 months, we’ll be offering a Drop-In night on the 3rd Thursday of each month, from 7:15-8:45pm. Come join us at Heritage Community Association (1654 11th Ave) on Feb 19, March 19, April 16, May 21, and June 16 to take part. We’d love to see you there!
